Resting close to 1,000 feet above sea level, it is certainly the highest grand cru site in Puligny-Montrachet, and is only one of two grand cru sites within its borders. Perched high on the slope, Chevalier-Montrachet vines must seek out minerals that lie below, thus growing strong and sturdy roots. Drainage is excellent, which complements the lesser soil, and produces superior fruit and, by extension, wine.

Concentrated and robust, the grapes can support wine that ages well, and deliver what is considered some of the world’s very finest grand cru whites in all of Burgundy. Centuries-old, the site received grand cru status in 1937. Top Producers: Domaine Leflaive, Louis Jadot, Michel Niellon
